During the manufacturing process, waste water goes through a complex process of treatment, clarification and filtration before recycling or pumping back to the river. The recycled water is used as wash water, sprayed through nozzles to clean sludge from equipment used to produce fertiliser or fuel cakes.

Although the mill originally manufactured newsprint from a pulp mix of renewable resources, the plant was converted in 2003 and now uses 100% recycled paper.
